E-file an IRS personal tax extension with TaxExtension.com
A Nebraska tax extension will give you 6 extra months to file your state return. Nebraska personal extensions are automatic, which means there is no application to submit. However, a tax extension does not give you more time to pay. You will need to make a state tax payment if you owe Nebraska income tax for the year. Your Nebraska tax must be paid by the original deadline (April 15) to avoid interest and penalty charges.
If you have a valid Federal extension (IRS Form 4868), you will automatically receive a Nebraska tax extension. In fact, you are only required to file a Nebraska extension if you don’t have a Federal extension but you want a state extension, or if you need to make a tentative payment for your Nebraska income tax. Additionally, the State of Nebraska automatically grants extensions to individuals who pay an authorized IRS tax preparer to e-file their Nebraska return.
To request a Nebraska tax extension, use Form 4868N (Nebraska Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File a Nebraska Individual Income Tax Return). This form should also be used if you need to make a Nebraska extension payment. If you prefer to go online, you can pay electronically via Nebraska e-Pay for Individuals: www.revenue.nebraska.gov/electron/ind_e-pay
Remember to attach a copy of your tax extension documentation (IRS Form 4868 or Nebraska Form 4868N) to your Nebraska return when it’s filed.
