E-file an IRS personal tax extension with TaxExtension.com

Iowa personal income tax returns are due by April 30. If you cannot file by that date, you can get a state tax extension.

An Iowa personal extension is automatic, which means there are is no application to submit. However, at least 90% of your Iowa tax liability must be paid by the original deadline (April 30) to avoid penalties. As long as you meet that requirement, you will automatically receive a 6-month Iowa tax extension, which moves your filing deadline to the last day of October.

If you owe tax, you can make a state tax payment using Iowa Form IA 1040V (Individual Income Tax Payment Voucher). Tax payments can also be made online through Iowa’s “eFile & Pay” system: tax.iowa.gov/efile-pay
