State of Ohio Business Income Tax Extensions

E-file an IRS business tax extension with TaxExtension.com

General Instructions

Ohio pass-through entity tax returns are due by the 15th day of the 4th month after the close of the tax year. For calendar year filers, this date is April 15. If you cannot file on time, you can get an Ohio tax extension.

In order to obtain an Ohio business extension, you must first begin with the Federal business extension (IRS Form 7004).

If you have a valid Federal tax extension, you will automatically be granted the same extension of time to file your Ohio pass-through entity return. For example, let’s say the Federal partnership return (IRS Form 1065) is due by April 15, and the Ohio partnership return (Form IT 1140) is also due by April 15. If you obtain a Federal extension of time to file until September 15 (a 5-month extension), the deadline for your Ohio partnership return is extended by the same amount of time (5 months, to September 15).

Remember than an extension of time to file is NOT an extension of time to pay. Your Ohio tax must be fully paid by the original due date (April 15 for calendar year taxpayers) or interest and penalties will be charged. You can make a state extension payment using Ohio Form IT 1140-EXT (Ohio Withholding Tax Extension Payment Coupon for Pass-Through Entities and Trusts).
