State of Michigan Business Income Tax Extensions

E-file an IRS business tax extension with TaxExtension.com

General Instructions

Michigan business tax returns are due by the last day of the 4th month following the end of the tax year. For calendar year taxpayers, this date is April 30. If you cannot file on time, you can request a state tax extension. A Michigan business extension will give you until the last day of the 8th month beyond the original deadline of your return (August 30 for calendar year filers).

A business extension must be requested from the Michigan Department of Treasury even if you have a valid Federal tax extension (IRS Form 7004). To apply for a Michigan extension, file Form 4 (Application for Extension of Time to File Michigan Tax Returns) by the original due date of your return (April 30).

Remember that a tax extension only gives you more time to file, not to pay. Payment of your Michigan tax is still due by the original deadline (April 30). In order to be granted a Michigan extension, you must include a tax payment with your extension application. Failure to pay your state tax on time will result in interest and penalty charges.
